Red River Zoo
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Zoo! As a reminder -- you must be 18 years or older to volunteer at the Zoo. New Volunteer Orientation is your opportunity to learn more about the Red River Zoo and our volunteer program. It's also your opportunity to pay your one-time $25 volunteer fee and receive your volunteer shirt. New Volunteer Orientations are held the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. prior to our regularly scheduled Volunteer Meeting. (Unless otherwise noted.) In the event that these dates/times don't work for you, we can try to make other arrangements. E-mail alison@redriverzoo.org

Our volunteer meetings are generally held at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of a given month. Meetings are generally held at the Red River Zoo, unless specified otherwise. Each volunteer meeting is an opportunity to learn what's happening at the Zoo, what volunteer opportunities are available, and visit with your fellow volunteers. We also try to have guest speakers.

Diet Prep Volunteer Shifts 🥕🦜 Diet Prep shifts are a great way to get hands-on and directly support our Zookeepers and the animals in our care. Volunteers assist with preparing daily diets for a variety of species, helping ensure each animal receives proper nutrition to support their health and well-being. All Diet Prep shifts are completed under the supervision of Marcy Thompson, one of our Zookeepers, and no prior experience is required. Training and guidance are provided during each shift. NOTE: First-time Diet Prep volunteers must complete a Saturday training shift before signing up for any additional Diet Prep shifts. Your time and support play an important role in animal care operations, and this opportunity offers a behind-the-scenes look at how nutrition supports animal welfare at the Zoo.

Giving Hearts Day is a powerful opportunity for our community to come together in support of the Red River Zoo, and our volunteers play a vital role in making it a success. By giving your time and energy, you help amplify the Zoo’s mission of connecting people with nature and inspiring conservation. Volunteer support on Giving Hearts Day helps ensure donations go directly toward animal care, habitat improvements, conservation initiatives, and impactful education programs for guests of all ages. Your efforts help us share our story, engage supporters, and make every contribution count for the animals and experiences our guests love. Together, your support helps the Zoo continue to grow, care for wildlife, and serve our community—one heart at a time. 💙🦓
